I Left Home Wearing Slippers And Returned Wearing Sneakers

One of the most impressing lessons I learnt over the weekend was about the profound blessings that return to the one who gives without withholding when is in their capacity to do so.

I was privileged to give my black sneaker to a gentleman who didn't have one for church. In that moment, I remembered a kind act I had once witnessed from a family and the lesson I had learnt from it. I thought to myself, “I’m not even going to school at the moment. Besides, he needs them more.” And with that, I let them go without thinking twice.

Weeks later, I travelled across town wearing leather slippers, not regarding the dusty roads. That's what I had at the moment. While I prepped for reason of my travel I realized that my footwear was not professionally matching my outfit and that was how I was given new sneakers to try on.

As if that wasn’t enough, I later encountered someone at the workplace who, out of the kindness of their heart, crocheted a ruffled scrunchie to match my outfit.

I was amazed.

It reminded of these scriptures in:

  • 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

  • Proverbs 11:24 NIV

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Sometimes, we may find ourselves overthinking an act of kindness or hospitality. But as children of God, we must constantly remind ourselves that God loves cheerful givers and those who extend their hands to others in need.

Even so, God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son…

He set an example for us to follow. Therefore, when it is within your capacity to give, give without withholding.
